Pentecost

The Holy Ghost, A Mighty Rushing Wind, Counselor, Advocate, Comforter. These names invoke the mystery of the Holy Spirit, but they may not help us understand the purpose. As it's recounted in Acts 1, when Jesus told the disciples to wait for the "gift" that the Father had promised he was giving them, and us, a clue of the importance of the Spirit. Jesus didn't tell them to go and start healing, preaching, teaching.

Jesus told them to wait.

The disciples stayed together waiting until "a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting" (Acts 2:2). What's the first thing the Spirit enabled them to do? Speak in other tongues. To be understood by people who were different from them.

What a gift, indeed!
