New Day, New Year
A devout man named Simeon believed he would live to see the Messiah. Simeon waited in faith and heeded the Holy Spirit by going to the temple on the day that Mary and Joseph brought an infant Jesus to be presented to the Lord, following Jewish tradition.
28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you may now dismiss your servant in peace.
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31 which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and the glory of your people Israel.” (Luke 2:28-32)
An elderly prophet named Anna also approached the family.
38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem. (Luke 2:38)
What we know of these two believers is their posture of faithful waiting in the anticipation of fulfilled expectations. How many deferred dreams might be realized if we chose to live in this posture each day?
As the sun sets on 2017, the dawn of 2018 emerges limitless before us. May we dream God-sized dreams, and actually expect them to come true.
Praise God!
Happy New Year!
