Life in the Spirit

tongue of fire

14 I will put my spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you on your own soil; then you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken and will act," says the LORD. (Ezekiel 37:14)

The words "spirit" and "breath" are often interchangeable throughout the bible. When God proclaims restoration of the dry bones - representing the people of God - to Ezekiel, it's reminiscent of God breathing life into being in Genesis.

7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7)

The Spirit of God sustains life with guidance, wisdom, and intercession.

13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. (John 16:13)

17 'In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. (Acts 2:17)

26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. 27 And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27)

Through the Spirit, God seeks to surround us with God's presence so that we can move through life in faith - not avoiding all difficulty, but trusting God's grace. May we be mindful of and obedient to God's Holy Spirit.
