Know Justice, Know Peace

1 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. (Romans 5:1-5)

It seems like every Sunday should be Trinity Sunday. But this week, in particular, we commemorate the gift of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit - three in one. We celebrate the peace with God and access to grace which have come through Jesus Christ. And we open ourselves more fully to God’s love which has been poured into us through the Holy Spirit.

The Son gives us access to God’s glory and the Spirit fills us with God’s love with such extravagance that it overflows to others, continuing the cycle.*

Since we are created in the image of God, God's tri-unity is the example of community that we long for - a self-sacrificing life that continually creates love, continually embodies love, continually renews love. Clothed in this unending love, we can have peace even in the midst of suffering, and we can be beacons of wholeness and healing as we rest in God's merciful justice.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. (Gloria Patri)
